Berger Reading

This week we read chapters 1 and 2 of Berger's book on excellence. He is the perfect example of that you dont need everything to have a successful classroom. Day after day Berger went to conferences and teacher after teacher wrong. Berger teaches at a white school, yes, but the school is very poor. But he says that the school is rich in culture of excellence.

At my practicum class at Parker Elementary, the school isn't the richest school. But they have built a great community at the school. Everyday they do the morning announcements and the pledge in the gym with every other class. So, they haven't just built a great community for learners, but more of a family. Also when students do work in the hallway and another student passes by, they always say hi. This shows that the students know everyone and the culture of excellence is very strong.

So, just because a school is rich, doesn't always mean they will have a great community within the school.
